GOE Alliance Convenes Vietnam's Commodity Sector Around New Financial Rails

5 minutes

Ho Chi Minh City, 29 July 2026

GOE Alliance hosted a closed-door Special Discussion Session on Vietnam's Commodity Market, bringing together senior representatives from across the country's agricultural export, logistics, banking, and investment ecosystem to examine a single question: can new on-chain financial infrastructure solve the capital constraints holding Vietnam's commodity sector back?

The session drew Vinh Hiep — Vietnam's second-largest coffee exporter with annual revenues approaching USD 1.2 billion — alongside Gemadept, the largest logistics company in Southern Vietnam and a long-standing operational partner of Vinh Hiep. Three commercial banks and two investment funds joined the table, alongside Exabyte, a GOE Alliance member building traceability infrastructure for agricultural supply chains, and TDT Asia, a financial infrastructure development firm.

Participants mapped the structural pain points that persist despite Vietnam's commodity sector operating at scale: warehouse inventory that cannot serve as collateral, trade financing that moves slower than the seasons it is meant to support, and cross-border settlement friction that erodes margins on every shipment. The group examined whether programmable financial rails — built on verifiable trade documents rather than relationship-based credit assessments — represent a workable path forward.

The discussion reached a shared conclusion: the underlying potential is real, and the current policy window in Vietnam's International Financial Centre creates conditions that did not previously exist to pilot exactly this kind of infrastructure on live trade flows.
